Korg released the DW-6000 in 1984 as their followup to their popular Poly 800 synth. The five octave keyboard was Korg's first digitally controlled analog synth hybrid. It featured 8 sampled digital waveforms, 6 voice polyphony and a analog resonant filter which was great for producing bass and lead patches. 64 presets that can be held in the DW6000 memory with a data cassette interface which let you load in additional sounds via a cassette tape. It also included a good sysex spec enabling you to load in new sounds via MIDI. One of Korgs first synths to have this feature.
Creating new sounds using the DW's tiny display is not really a problem, but it's always a lot easier using a good computer editing program. If your interested in creating new sounds for the DW6000, MOTU's Unisyn is a great computer editor. We have used Unisyn with hundreds of different synths to create our custom libraries including the sounds that we are offering for the DW-6000.
The Kid Nepro DW-6000 patches are available in the following formats:
WAV files - connect your computer audio output to your DW-8000 cassette interface input and you can load in the sounds the same way you would from the data cassette tape. The files will open in any program that plays AIFF or WAV files. The advantage to getting this format over the data cassette is that you can download it, saving yourself time and shipping charges.
System exclusive files (.syx) and standard midi files (.mid) - Sounds can be loaded through the Korg's midi port. You need a midi interface to connect to the synths midi input. We provide the software that lets you load in the new sounds. The sounds are available in both Mac and PC formats. This format is also available via our FREE download delivery.
If your computer has a midi interface or sound card connected to the USB port, you can use your midi interface to load in the sounds. We provide the software along with your order that will load in the sounds for you. Midi interfaces are an inexpensive alternative to purchasing RAM or PCM cards and we sell them starting at under $100. A midi interface will also enable you to use a computer editor like Unisyn to create your own custom sounds.
Our sounds will also get you back in business if your DW-6000 battery has died and you lost all the sounds in the memory. If your just getting into synthesizers and on a budget, a used DW-6000 is worth looking into. You can probably pick one up for a good price on Ebay.
